Closed List — Privacy Policy
Closed List is a task app for iPhone that holds at most ten commitments at a time. It has no account, no advertising and no tracking. The only data that ever leaves your iPhone for us is the anonymous record of the one-time purchase. This page explains, plainly, what the app stores on your device, what optional iCloud sync does, what happens when you buy the unlock, and what is never collected.
Data we collect
We collect no task data or other personal data through the Closed List app. There is no developer-owned account or backend, no sign-in, no separate analytics or crash-reporting software, no advertising identifier and no tracking across apps. We do not receive your task database.
There is one exception, and it is the purchase. To sell, restore and check the single unlock, the app sends the anonymous purchase information described under Purchases to our purchase provider. Nothing you write in the app goes with it.
Your data starts on your device
Everything you write — the tasks on your closed list, the possibilities on Open, the history of what you finished and what you let go, and the time your day starts — is kept in a single database file in the app’s private storage on your iPhone. It is used only to run the app. It is never sent to us, and we have no server that could receive it.
If you enable an Apple backup service, Apple may include app data in your iPhone backup. Those backups are controlled by Apple and your device settings, not by Closed List.
iCloud sync is optional and off by default
Closed List can sync between your own devices through your iCloud account, using Apple’s CloudKit private database. Turn on Sync with iCloud in Settings if you want it; it is off until then.
When it is on, your list, Open, history, First pin, Enough and current selection follow you between your devices. Your day-start setting, first-use state, sync switch and short Undo record stay on each device. The synced data lives in your own iCloud account and counts against your iCloud storage, not ours. Closed List has no developer service that reads it, and there is no copy on a server of ours.
While sync is on, Apple’s push service delivers silent background messages that tell your devices something changed. They show no notification, and the app asks for no notification permission.
Turning Sync with iCloud off stops syncing on that device. It keeps the local copy and the copy already in iCloud, and does not change the setting on your other devices.
Capturing from outside the app
Saving a line from another app’s share sheet, from Siri or the Shortcuts app, or from the Control Center and Lock Screen button writes the shared line of text into the same local database on your iPhone. If Sync with iCloud is on, that captured text can later sync to your other devices.
Export
Settings → Your data offers a readable plain-text export and a structured JSON export of your task data and list state. It hands the file you choose to the standard iOS share sheet. Where the file goes and who sees it is entirely your choice in that sheet. The app does not upload it and does not know where you sent it. There is no import.
Purchases
Closed List sells one thing: a one-time unlock for choosing new commitments. It is not a subscription, and there is no trial. Payment is handled entirely by Apple’s App Store. Your payment details are entered in Apple’s own purchase sheet, which we never see. We receive no card details, no name and no email address.
To make, restore and check that one purchase, the app uses the RevenueCat SDK from RevenueCat, Inc., which processes purchase data for us. RevenueCat receives:
- the transaction data Apple reports for the unlock — that a purchase, restore or refund happened, and for which product;
- an anonymous app user ID generated on your device by the SDK. It is not an account, it is not your Apple Account, and we never attach your name or email address to it;
- the fact that the unlock screen was shown;
- what any request over the internet carries: your IP address, your device model and iOS version, the app version and your locale.
RevenueCat never receives your tasks, your Open possibilities, your history, your exports, or anything else you write in the app. Automatic device-identifier collection is switched off in the SDK, so no advertising identifier is sent. There is no attribution, no advertising and no cross-app tracking.
Apple sends its App Store server notifications about this purchase to RevenueCat, so a later refund or a purchase restored on another device is reflected without you reopening the app.
RevenueCat acts as our processor. Under the terms we are on, it must protect this data at least as well as this policy promises, use it only to run the purchase service on our behalf, and neither sell it nor use it for its own advertising. We do not state how long RevenueCat keeps the data; its own Privacy Policy describes its handling and retention. Apple’s handling of App Store purchases is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
Tracking and advertising
Closed List contains no advertising, does not track you across apps or websites, and does not request App Tracking Transparency permission. The purchase data above is not used to track you, is not linked with data from other companies, and is never shared with a data broker.
Third-party software
The app includes open-source libraries used for local storage and application infrastructure, and the RevenueCat SDK described under Purchases. It includes no advertising software, no separate crash reporting and no cross-app tracking software.
Two companies receive data, and only in the roles described above: Apple, as the operator of iCloud and the App Store, and RevenueCat, Inc., as the processor of purchase data. Both are required to provide protection for that data equal to what this policy promises. No user data is shared with anyone else.
Links to the web
Settings and the purchase sheet link to this policy and to Apple’s standard terms. Opening either link hands the address to your browser; the app sends no task data with it and keeps no record of the visit. The support page is available on this website.
Keeping and removing copies
Tasks and history have no automatic expiry. Completing, returning or letting go of a task changes its state; it does not erase its history. Turning Sync with iCloud off does not delete data.
Deleting Closed List removes its local database from that iPhone. It does not remove files you exported, device backups, a copy already stored in iCloud or local copies on other devices. If you used iCloud sync, Apple lets you view and delete storage used by third-party apps from your Apple Account’s iCloud storage; see Apple’s current instructions. Manage any other device, backup or exported copy separately. Export from Settings → Your data first if you want to keep a readable copy.
Apple and RevenueCat keep their own records of the App Store purchase, under their own retention policies. Deleting the app does not remove those. To ask about the purchase record held for you, write to the address below; because the app user ID is anonymous, we may need details of your purchase to find it.
Children
Closed List is a general-purpose task utility. It is not directed at children, and it collects no personal information from anyone — including children — beyond the anonymous purchase record described above. It has no advertising, no messaging and no user-generated content shared with others.
Changes to this policy
If the app’s data practices change, this page and the App Store privacy disclosures will be updated before the changed version is released. The last-updated date above identifies the current version.
